Jonathan Kidwell, who will graduate in December 2017 from the program, took home first place honors and David Snow, who graduated this month, claimed second place. Kidwell resides in Nicholasville and Snow is a Monticello resident.

SkillsUSA Kentucky is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives that focuses on workforce readiness. Local, state and national competitions in various areas allow students to demonstrate occupational and leadership skills.

According to Kidwell, all competitors were graded on tasks such as engine inspection, safety wiring, tubing fabrication and FAA forms and records. Kidwell was giving a 300 piece tool set from UPS, who sponsored the competition, and Snow received a 100 piece wrench set.

Jerry Graham, associate professor and power plant instructor for the program, said he was proud of how well the SCC program was represented at the competition.

“Jonathan will go on to the national competition in June to show off his skills there,” said Graham. “I am confident he will do very well. Both of these students displayed excellent quality of work and professionalism at the SKILLS competition.”
