American Association for Women in community colleges raises funds for SCC Scholarship

student and staff holding giftThe local Somerset Community College (SCC) chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) recently held a fundraiser to benefit women attending SCC.

Each year, SCC’s AAWCC chapter funds a scholarship for a female student at the college through various fundraising events. Recently, the committee sold chances on a basket of various goods, which raised nearly $400 for the scholarship. The basket was won by Jessica Boswell, an SCC Somerset Cosmetology student. She is shown below with Tracy Casada, SCC dean of student affairs and AAWCC member.

The AAWCC was organized in 1973 and supports networking, staff development, leadership development, mentoring, service and student success among women at all levels. The SCC Chapter of AAWCC is led by the following SCC faculty and staff: Dana Muse, president; Jennifer Owens, vice president; Elaine Kohrman, secretary; Carrie Fitzpatrick, treasurer; and Cindy Byrd and Kelly Johnson, co-project coordinators.
