Simpson Recognized for Excellence through Marketing and Public Relations Organization

Stuart SimpsonStuart Simpson, program coordinator for the Somerset Community College (SCC) Visual Communication: Multimedia program, was recently recognized for outstanding achievement in marketing communications at the National Conference for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 2 conference in Pensacola Beach, Florida.

NCMPR District 2 is comprised of community colleges in 11 Southeastern states, along with the Bahamas and Bermuda. The Medallion Awards is an annual award celebration honoring the marketing and communication efforts of community college marketing and public relations professionals.

Simpson was awarded a Gold award in the category of Computer Generated Illustration for a piece called “Avoiding Potential Online Potholes.” The piece was produced for the SCC’s Academic Support division and was designed to assist instructors as they transition from in-person to online learning modules.

“The easy to follow graphic provides a plan to promote student success and avoid problems with the new technology,” said Simpson. “The illustration was included in as part of an online instruction community this past year and was distributed to the entire faculty during the college’s 2016 convocation.”

The second award earned by Simpson was for “Best Mobile App.” The app was designed for Institutional Advancement and is called “Interactive SNAP Information.” 

“Somerset Community College has always promoted safety measures to faculty, staff and students,” said Simpson. “Safety Notification Alert Process (SNAP) booklets noting what to do when various emergencies arise are posted in each room. To make this information even more accessible, an interactive PDF app was developed in spring 2016 to be available on computer desktops. The ‘SNAP: Quick Pick Directory’ provides quick, easy access to emergency procedures.”

In addition to his role as director for the college’s Visual Communication program, Simpson also oversees the college’s print shop as part of the SCC Institutional Advancement team, led by Cindy Clouse, chief advancement officer.
