SCC Announces Holiday Crafting Classes

The following “Homemade Crafty Christmas” classes will be offered through the Somerset Community College Workforce Solutions program.

All classes will be held on the SCC South Campus, Building one, Industry Training Room, located at Airport Road, Somerset, KY. Pre-registration and fee payment for each class is required and additional supplies are needed for each class.

BEGINNING CLAY
Tuesday, October 16
6:00-8:00 p.m.
$15.00 + supplies (provided by instructor)

In this class, students will be constructing an ornament and jewelry canes. If you never worked with polymer clay, you’ll be amazed how easy it is to make things with it!

SNOWMAN CHRISTMAS GOURD
Saturday, October 20
9:00-1:00 p.m.
$25.00 + supplies (provided by instructor)

We will be painting a gourd for Christmas! The skills you use can go for any size of gourd from large to necklace size! Class will be limited to 12 participants.

BEGINNING JEWELRY-MAKING
Tuesday, October 23
6:00-8:00 p.m.
$15.00 + supplies (provided by instructor)

Jewelry-making is all the rage now! You’ll make a bracelet and necklace set. You may not want to give it as a gift! If you participated in the Beginning Clay class, you can also bring your clay beads to use in your pieces. Guaranteed fun – guaranteed satisfaction with your creations!

CHRISTMAS THROUGH THE WINDOW
Saturday, November 3 & 10
9:00-1:00 p.m.
$25.00 + supplies (provided by instructor)

This is a new process and entails painting on an actual window! When finished, you can hang it from your porch OR set it up in the window for a Christmas look. We will be painting a snowman feeding a blue bird. The windows will already be primed and crackled with Kentucky blue and white. The finished project is absolutely stunning! Class will be limited to 6 participants.

GLASS BULB ORNAMENTS
Thursday, November 8
6:00-8:00 p.m.
$15.00 + supplies (provided by instructor)

Finally! You’ll learn to make your own distinctive ornaments that you’ve always wanted! We’ll be using some of the painting skills you learned in the Beginning Painting class. If you have a certain color for your tree, bring your ornament. You may use glass OR plastic ornaments – just remember plastic doesn’t break when dropped.

SHRINKY DINK ORNAMENTS
Tuesday, November 13
6:00-8:00 p.m.
$15.00 + supplies (provided by instructor)

If you’ve never used shrinky dink (plastic) to make ornaments, you’re going to love it! Kids love to see them hanging on a tree OR even help decorating them! They can be used as ornaments or make beautiful sun catchers. It is a recycled craft! Bring your plastic salad or cookie trays from the grocery. In order to use it safely, the bottom of the container should have a triangle with a “6” in the middle of it.

EXTRA CLASS SESSION – MAKE-UP CLASS FOR ANY YOU MAY HAVE MISSED

If you were unable to attend the Tuesday classes or need additional class time for a Saturday class, we’ll use today to make up and complete projects. Maybe you need a set of earrings to match your necklace set?? Need extra time to finish a gourd? You may work on any project EXCEPT WINDOWS.

CARDINAL SWEATSHIRT
Saturday, December 1
9:00-1:00 p.m.
$25.00 + supplies (provided by instructor)

Bring a sweatshirt in the size of person you are giving it to, and you’ll learn how to paint on fabric. We’ll be painting a Kentucky cardinal resting on a pine bough. In this class, you will learn how to mix the fabric paint and the brush technique needed to make a beautiful gift or a wearable piece of art for yourself.

CHRISTMAS WELCOME MAT

This will be the last class in the Homemade Crafty Christmas series, and what better way to end the series but making a welcoming front doormat for Christmas? We will be painting carpet with a snowman or snowmen to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season!
