Intro. To Photography w/ Tom Patrick

Description: This class is for the student with an enthusiastic interest in digital or film photography. This course stresses under¬standing and improving basic skills with digital and film cameras, whether your camera is a Point and Shoot or an SLR. Sessions cover camera controls and their functions, digital capture, film types, exposure, composition, flash, and the ever changing world of the photographic process. So, if you are a beginner or an advanced photographer, this class will fit you. This 21-hour class will be structured to the needs of each student and their personal level of photographic skill. BRING YOUR CAMERA TO EACH CLASS and plan on having fun learning and growing in your love of photography.

Beginning Guitar w/ Bill Jones

Description: Bring your guitar and a flat pick and enjoy the pleasures of making music in a group during this 7 week class. This course will cover first position chords, note progression, basic strum patterns and an introduction to finger picking. Bill will have you playing songs the first night. Beginners are welcomed! Ages: 12-adult. Class will not meet on Feb. 18 (Holiday) or March 11 (Spring Break).

Description: Come join the MCTC faculty before you take your ACT exami¬nation and learn specific strategies that lend themselves well to sections of the ACT college entrance exam. Learn these strategies in Math, English, and Test Taking Tips to improve your ACT score. You will practice answering sample ACT questions during the class. These sessions are appropriate for students taking the ACT test on Feb. 9, April 13 or June 8th.
Ballroom Dancing for Beginners w/ Linda Kirk

Description: Linda has been involved with dancing for many years; she worked for Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Cincinnati, Ohio for over 5 years. This class will introduce you and your partner to the magic steps for several modern ballroom dances, i.e., Swing, Foxtrot, Rumba, Waltz or Cha Cha. With these simple moves you will discover you can dance the night away at a variety of settings, be it a wedding, a work party, a friend’s home, or a night spot out on the town. You too can dance with the stars!!!

Yoga - Mean to Unify w/ Vicki Prather

Description: The goal of yoga is to harmonize mind, body and spirit through a combination of yoga poses, meditations and breathing exercises. Yoga is helpful to improve your mood, relieve stress, help in pain reduction, and improve breathing, circulation, strength and flexibility. Participants will need to wear flexible clothing (i.e., leggings, bike shorts, sports bra/tank, t-shirt). Yoga is best practiced barefooted. Participants will need to supply their own yoga mat. Practice yoga on an EMPTY stomach. You shouldn’t eat 3-4 hours before practicing yoga.

Minor Auto-Body Repair w/ Sonny Hamilton

Description: Auto-body damage can be costly and frustrating, particularly if the repair cost is less than your insurance deductible. But not all auto-body damage requires a visit to the repair shop. The ugly scratch from a shopping cart, or slight rub mark from a car that got too close in the parking lot, are some examples. If the scratches are not deep into the paint, many can be repaired at home. Join Sonny Hamilton, Sonny’s Body Shop, for this hands-on class to learn how to identify and repair minor scratches without the major cost and inconvenience of a visit to the repair shop.

Description: Need to control your dog? The goal of this course is to get your dog to come when called, to sit, to stay, to lie down and stay, and to heal properly. The dog must be at least six months old and vaccinations must be current. Please bring proof of vaccinations to the first class. Please do not bring your dog the first night of class. Instructor George Rodgerson has 30+ years of experience training working livestock dogs to herd sheep and cattle, and has competed in sheep and cattle dog trials at the highest level. Register early!   • A firearm (NOTE: You do NOT have to own the firearm; it must, however, be in a safe working condition.
  • If you do not have a firearm, we may loan you one for free if you contact us in advance.
  • A holster, case, or range bag to carry to range and secure your firearm.
  • 20 rounds of factory ammunition (no reloads).
  • A cleaning kit for your firearm (if you have one already).
  • Appropriate dress for weather and outdoor conditions.

Description: If you are using a film or digital advanced point and shoot or an SLR camera and you want to take your photography to the next level, this 21-hour class is for you. We will be going beyond the basics and looking at the more advanced ways of using your camera and equipment. The topics we will be covering are Exposure, Composition, and Close-up Photography, Using Flash (both on camera and Studio), Specialized Photographic Equipment and many other areas of Photography. In each class we will target a different area of study, and there will be plenty of open discussion and opportunity to use your own camera. The very last class will be spent out on location for an opportunity to have one on one instruction with each student. So plan on joining in to learn more about Photography and, as always, have fun with your camera! Due to the one on one instruction in this class, class is limited to 8 participants.

Description: Today voice acting (voice overs) is everywhere, from commercials to audio books, training materials, documentaries, animation, telephone systems and even the internet. This single evening class takes a realistic and entertaining look at the positive and negative components of building success as a voice actor. The instructor will discuss both the creative and business aspects of the field. In addition to having the opportunity to hear voice acting demos from working professionals, each student will have the opportunity to record a real script under the direction of a producer right there in the class. Each student’s recording is then played back at the end of the session as a class finale. Throughout the class students are encouraged to ask questions, and the instructor is always willing to provide basic voice assessment to anyone attending.

The Downtown College Series:  Maysville Community & Technical College, Workforce Solutions will begin a NEW program called “The Downtown College Series”.  Each semester we will offer presentations on topics of interest to the community in the newly renovated Cox building College Café.  Please join us for the first presentations on the Dead Sea Scrolls and Translating the Bible into English.  Fresh baked goods created by MCTC Culinary students will be available for you to purchase.

Dead Sea Scrolls w/ Alex Hyrcza

Description: Have you ever wondered what the Dead Sea Scrolls were? Come participate in an informal class on the Dead Sea Scrolls being taught by MCTC’s Professor of Religion and Philosophy, Alex  Hyrcza, M.A., M. Phil. Enjoy a fun evening of informal study in the newly renovated Cox building Café.  We’ll discuss what the scrolls are, where they were found, who wrote them, and how they are used today.  Finally, we’ll actually study the scrolls themselves. Come see actual photographs of the scrolls in a book, hear the scrolls read in their original Hebrew language, and study some of the main ideas contained in the writings from over 2,500 years ago! Any person 15 years old or older may attend.

If you have a family Bible you would like to bring and share, please do. We can talk about how old family Bibles are great resources for genealogy!
