The Kentucky Motorcycle Rider Safety Program offers two classes at the MCTC Rowan Campus.
- Basic Rider 1 class is for non-riders, new riders, or someone wanting a refresher course. During the course, you will be taught to maneuver and operate a motorcycle in a controlled, off-street environment. The course offers approximately five hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding exercises in a controlled environment. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a waiver for the skills test to obtain your motorcycle license. The skills test waiver is available for Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia residents. Check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Most insurance agencies offer 10% - 20% discounts to persons completing the course. Motorcycles and helmets are furnished to each student enrolled in the Basic Rider course. The BRC course is a minimum of 15 hours. All classes meet on Friday, 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. All classroom and skills hours must be attended in order to successfully complete course requirements.
-
Basic Rider 2 Course. For riders who already have basic skills and a motorcycle permit or license. It is similar to the BRC1 except the speeds are higher and riders should be riding their own motorcycle. It is an excellent refresher course for practicing and renewing basic riding skills. On-cycle maneuvers are specifically designed to reinforce safe riding strategies in a controlled, off-street environment. There is a normal classroom component that discusses safety concepts based on past riding experiences and current knowledge.
BRC2 is a perfect way to reinforce basic skills on one's own personal motorcycle. Passengers are permitted with a licensed operator on a personal motorcycle. The course meets a minimum of six hours on a Saturday (one day training).
