On Dec. 4th, 2008 my life that I knew it changed. I had been associated with the automotive industry for over 20 years. I was the general manager for a local Chrysler dealership. The owners walked in and told us that they were closing. I went from a well paying job to nothing. I didn't know where to turn next. I was 47 years old with only a 12th grade education. I didn't have a trade or college degree to fall back on. With the great help from everyone at the Rowan campus I got into the welding program. Mr. Click, Mr. Howard, Mr. Pecco, and Ms. Reed bent over backwards to help me get into class even though it was 3 weeks into the spring 2009 semester. I just started out wanting a welding certificate but, found out that with just a few more classes I could get my associates degree. That is what I am pursuing now. I now feel confident that after graduation I will not be as limited to just certain job opportunities. This will open many doors for me. I will have an Associate’s degree that I will have from now on and will have a trade skill to go along with it. Who said that you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I now feel confident that I will have a secure future.
