How to Activate your KCTCS Mailbox

This video will take you through the steps necessary to activate your KCTCS e-mail account. It is very important you do this immediately because this is how your instructors are able to communicate with you directly. Before you start you will need your student ID number. The first step is to open up your web browser. You'll need to type in webmail.kctcs.edu and press enter on your keyboard. This will take you to the KCTCS web mail home page. This is where you can go to change your password et cetera.

For now we will select new account activation by moving our cursor to new account activation heading and then selecting it by using our mouse. This will take you to the login page for KCTCS web mail account activation. Here, you will be asked to enter your last name. By moving your cursor to the box next to the last name and then selecting it you will then type in your last name then press the tab key to move on to the student ID box. Here you will enter your student ID number given to you by the Registrar's Office upon completion of your registration to Maysville Community & Technical College. Then click on sign in by moving your cursor to the box labeled sign in and use your mouse to select it. You will also be able to go ahead and press your Enter key on your keyboard to move on to the next page. You are now taken to the second screen that wants to confirm you are the correct person activating this e-mail account. It asks you are you John Quincy student, a Maysville student, yes or no? John is going to choose yes because this is him by moving his cursor to the yes box and using his mouse to select it. If the name that comes up when you enter the student ID is not your correct name, you need to contact your Registrar's Office for further assistance. Their contact information can be shown at the end of this video. You are now taken to the third screen that displays your domain name, your user name and your e-mail address. For John his domain name is KCTCSACC. His user name is jstudent0001; and his e-mail address is jstudent@kctcs.edu. Next you'll need to set up your password. Move your cursor to the box named password and type in your new password. Then press the tab key to move to the next box which is to confirm the password that you just typed in again. Make sure you keep your password someplace where you will remember it then press Enter.

In this example John did not put in a proper password so you need to check the rules for putting in a correct password. You will receive an error message saying you failed to put in the correct password. To return to the password screen you need to place your cursor on the OK box and select it using your mouse. You can see how to create an acceptable password by selecting click here for a description of acceptable passwords. This is located in the sentence below the password entry box highlighted in a blue script color. For KCTCS the correct password consists of at least eight characters and a combination of at least three of the following rules. At least three English characters A through Z lower case; or at least three English characters A through Z upper case; and at least three characters a based ten digits 0 through 9; symbolic characters such as dollar sign, pound sign, etc. To close out the password instruction box click on Close by moving your cursor to close and select it using your mouse. Re-enter a new password.
