WIA (Workforce Investment Act)

WIA Programs provide high-quality employment and training services that address the needs of individuals in need of training, retraining, and skill upgrades. Additionally, investments in adult services are targeted to move workers into post-secondary educational pipelines and career pathways to prepare more workers to enter into and advance in good jobs in the high growth and emerging occupations of the global economy. • WIA requires that you apply for financial aid. If you do not apply, they will not pay your tuition and books.
• If WIA is paying a portion of your books, see Nicole Long for a book voucher. She is located in the Financial Aid Office on the Somerset North campus, phone 606 451-6857.
• If you use your financial aid book voucher to pay for your books, all charges will be taken out of your financial aid award. The bookstore employees will not know to bill WIA for your books if you do not give them a book voucher signed by Loretta.
• If you are taking an online class through another KCTCS college, please take your schedule to the bookstore immediately after registering for classes. The bookstore will then have your book shipped here so you can charge it to your WIA book voucher.
• If your home campus is London, take your schedule to Clara Minton in the London bookstore.
• All other campuses, please take your schedule to Edna Jackson in the Somerset bookstore.
• Fall 2010 book charges for WIA students will take place August 2-6.
• Bring your schedule and a picture ID.
• If your WIA paperwork is not completed by the first week of class, you may be cancelled from all your classes. If this happens, you will be responsible for any reinstatement fees. Follow up with your case manager the week before classes start to ensure that all WIA paperwork is done.
• Take your grade report to your case manager at the end of each semester.

TAA (Trade Adjustment Assistance)

The TAA program helps workers who have lost their jobs as a result of foreign trade. The TAA program offers a variety of benefits and services to eligible workers, including job training, income support, job search and relocation allowances, a tax credit to help pay the costs of health insurance, and a wage supplement to certain reemployed trade-affected workers 50 years of age and older.
