Program Details

EDUCATION - TEACHER PREPThe Education Program is designed to prepare students for employment in Kentucky classrooms. The Paraeducator Certificate is for individuals seeking entry-level positions in Kentucky schools. Paraeducators are school employees who work under the supervision of teachers or other professional practitioners. Their jobs are instructional in nature and they provide other direct services to children and youth and their families.

This is a 61 credit-hour program designed for students interested in preparing to become a teacher.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS): Teacher Preparation Option is for students wishing to subsequently earn a teaching degree at a four-year institution. Both theory and practice are emphasized by the program. A field experience assignment is conducted in each education course that is offered.

Several  colleges and universities are part of the Teacher Preparation 2+2 Partnership Agreement to enhance the number of qualified teachers in Kentucky by establishing a seamless pathway of transfer between the KCTCS Teacher Preparation Associate Degree and a baccalaureate degree in the field of education. Students may select from several available options for a path toward teacher education which include the following: an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in teacher preparation, Associate of Arts Degree (AA) or Associate of Science Degree (AS).
