Meet Roger

portraitMy role at Somerset Community College: I work with the Maintenance and Operations department for the Somerset Community College and the extended campuses. My primary location is the Somerset Community College North Campus. My primary duties include helping to keep the grounds and the buildings here on the campus clean and functional.

How long I’ve worked here: I have worked here since August 16, 1984.

Why I do what I do: I hold myself to a high standard when completing my job duties. I feel that the campus is a direct reflection of myself and the pride that I take in my job and my work place. I feel that keeping the campus neat, clean and inviting makes for an environment that will allow students to excel in their educational endeavor. I like to meet new people and learn new things.
My philosophy: If you are going to do a job, do it right the first time. Take pride in yourself and the job that you do.

I like our students because: Our students are so diverse, they are from a wide range of backgrounds, places, religions, and cultures. Our student population varies from high school aged to those returning to an educational setting after being in the work force. As an SCC employee and current student I can relate to those students who are attending college, working and taking care of their families, doing all this to better themselves and the lives of their families. I can proudly say that my wife was a student at SCC before going on the Eastern Kentucky University and earning a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. My son attended SCC and earned an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. My daughter attended SCC before transferring to Eastern Kentucky University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology. I am currently attending classes in order to obtain an associate’s degree in general studies. And one day before too long my granddaughter will begin her college education at SCC as well.

A little more about me: I have a small farm in Eubank, Kentucky. I have been married for almost 30 years. I have one son, one daughter and one granddaughter. My family is what keeps me going, they are the reason that I strive so hard to do the right thing. I love the outdoors and all things that have to do with the outdoors. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, four wheeling, farming, gardening, and boating.
