Meet Hallie

My role at Somerset Community College: My title is Student Affairs Coordinator for the Laurel Campus. I work with the admissions and registration process for students. I also evaluate the transfer work for students transferring from other institutions. My main day-to-day responsibility is to support the students on the Laurel Campus who require assistance with a Student Affairs issue.

How long I’ve worked here: Since 1995.

Why I do what I do: I love my job. Every day is a new adventure. Each student that walks into my office has a different question or request. It is fun to get to help the students; I have a good feeling when a student leaves my office after we have worked together to solve their problem or request.

My philosophy: A well informed and prepared student is a successful student. I try to help our students gain access to the information they need to start school and continue their education at SCC. The more students understand admission procedures and the registration process, the easier it is for them to have the correct classes they need to achieve their goal while attending Somerset Community College

I like our students because: Everyone is so diverse! I have the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of students: from first time students who are just graduating high school to students who have decided to leave the work force in order to accomplish an education goal they might not have had the opportunity to pursue earlier in life. We have a variety of programs which means that I have contact with a lot of students who have various educational road maps. Each semester is a new change and I never experience the same day twice.

A little more about me: If I am not at the Laurel Campus in the Student Affairs Office, I am a busy mom. My son, Zack will be a freshman at Corbin high school this fall. Zack plays football and baseball. My daughter, Chloe, is a Corbin Middle School cheerleader. When we are not attending our children’s activities, I enjoy traveling with my husband, Ted. New Orleans is a favorite destination for us and we try to visit there as much as possible. I am also the proud owner of two pug dogs, Loco and Lulu.
