MCTC INSTRUCTOR NAMED PRESIDENT OF KENTUCKY SOCIETY OF MEDICAL ASSISTANTS

Diana Reeder, Medical Assisting Coordinator for Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC), was recently installed as President of the Kentucky Society of Medical Assistants (KSMA).

An affiliate of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) with nearly 460 members statewide, KSMA is Kentucky’s professional organization for medical assistants.  KSMA’s purpose is to empower certified medical assistants “to enhance and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required by employers and patients; protect medical assistants’ right to practice; and promote effective, efficient health care delivery.”

Reeder has remained a KSMA member since her time as a medical assisting student at Morehead State University.  She has also served on the Board of Trustees since 2009 and was elected Vice-President from 2010 to 2011.

“With recent requirements by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the increasing use of electronic medical records and the aging of society, the profession is poised to be on the forefront as a health care career demand of the future,” says Reeder.  “I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve my profession, colleagues and KSMA for the coming year.”

Reeder worked for several years in clinical health care before joining what was then known as Rowan Technical College in 2000 as the Medical Assisting Program Coordinator.  She remained in this position when the college became the Rowan Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College.

The MCTC Medical Assisting Diploma Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Upon successful completion of the program students are eligible to take the AAMA certification exam, which is considered the premier national certification for medical assisting.   Students are also eligible to become student members of AAMA and KSMA while enrolled in the program.
