Work-From-Home Career Development and Job Placement Fair Planned for London Area

A comprehensive career development event is being planned for November 12 in London. The event, a collaboration between the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program (EKCEP), the Daniel Boone Community Action Agency, the Office of Employment & Training and Somerset Community College (SCC), will provide employment and job placement services to help members of the community seek and obtain gainful employment.

James M. Davis, counselor at the SCC-Laurel Campus is coordinating the event.

“This is an exciting project for our campus community and our partnering agencies will be available to provide career counselors to assist participants with application processes, job referrals and job placement services,” said Davis.

The Kentucky Teleworks Program job fair is open to all students and community members and is being conducted on November 12, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Laurel North Campus, 100 University Drive, London, Building Three, Room #113.

Davis further indicates that SCC will also provide an information table so that participants can also learn about the various degree programs that is offered by SCC and be able to speak directly with an admissions officer as well as meet with a financial aid officer to ascertain how they can apply for student financial aid programs.

Joshua Ball, manager of Kentucky Teleworks, said companies are increasingly becoming interested in Kentucky as a source for workers who can work from home.

“We feel that Kentucky is uniquely positioned to take full advantage of opportunities such as this. Not only do we have the digital infrastructure in place, we also have a diverse workforce that prides itself on the traits that make a quality teleworker, including working well independently, managing time wisely and multi-tasking,” Ball said.
