Monticello photographer Wade Upchurch will be showing and discussing his work at Somerset Community College on Tuesday, September 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Upchurch will be speaking to the college’s photography club, Fruit of the Lens, on SCC’s Somerset Campus in the Citizens National Bank Community Room of the Harold Rogers Student Commons. The event is free and everyone is invited.
Upchurch retired from teaching and coaching in 2000 and began taking pictures. “…and I haven’t stopped,” he says on his website, wadeupchurch.com. Today, Wade Upchurch Photography is involved in many areas of photography, including weddings, portraits, special events and fine art.
Upchurch says that his philosophy is “to capture the moment in an unobtrusive manner for a more relaxed environment,” and notes that he uses “formal, candid and photojournalistic approaches to create a long lasting impression.”
Photo club advisor Cindy Burton encourages anyone with a love for photography to attend this event. “Our club and our meetings are not just for the serious photographers, but anyone who enjoys taking pictures,” she said. “Bring a lunch or just stop in to hear Mr. Upchurch tell how his passion for photography has evolved into a growing business.”
Information on the Fruit of the Lens photography club can be found on Facebook. The club’s mission is to “provide a setting where SCC students, staff and faculty can come together with the community to share digital images and discuss photography.”
